Latvia’s Security Barometer: 2/2025 (mid-April to early July 2025)

The last three months have been dominated by a hyper-active and unpredictable US President. War in the Middle East has moved beyond Gaza and Israel’s northern neighbors into a full-blown conflict with Iran, drawing in the US. The consequences are not yet clear. The period ended with an unusual NATO Summit choreographed to suit President Trump. Russia’s war against Ukraine got bloodier but no end is in sight. For Latvia the increase in Russia’s military activity and hard-line rhetoric do not leave an impression of increased security.
